DigiLab

With 148000 students and 4500 teachers, the Sapienza University of Rome is one of the 100 most important universities in the world, the largest in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.
The DigiLab, newly formed Centre for Research and Services, puts together twelve departments from both the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Faculty of Engineering (Computer Science) and provides a unique environment for exploring fundamental research and practical applications stemming from the rich interplay between Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. Research at the DIGILAB comprises interconnected developments in an unusual range of disciplines, such as arts, humanities, archaeology, anthropology, music, new media, computer science, 2D-3D design, interactive cinema and television, new forms of storytelling and new approaches to research and teaching; in particular DigiLab offers a support for the design, management and tutoring of e-learning courses (masters, academic courses and courses of the Long Life Learning Educational System of the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts, Humanities, and Oriental Studies).
Our educational approach hinges on the unique combination of learning-by-doing with a solid theoretical base. Attention to the latest developments in technology and the fostering of teamwork and collaborative projects are two of the distinctive traits of our institution. DigiLab staff has taken part in a number of FP6 and FP7 European Projects such as SEWASIE, DELOS, Interop.
